What is Jaal Work?

In Chikankari, "Jaal Work" means that a specific body panel of the garment — whether the front body, back body, or sleeves — is completely covered with continuous hand embroidery, leaving no surface bare.

When the entire front panel is fully embroidered, it is called Front Jaal Work.
When the sleeves are fully covered, it is called Sleeve Jaal Work.
When both front and back panels are fully embroidered, it is Both Side Jaal Work.
And when every single panel — front, back, and sleeves — is completely covered, it becomes All Over Jaal Work.

RUMI features Full Front Jaal Work — every inch of the front body panel is covered with intricate hand embroidery, edge to edge, creating a rich, dense, and stunning all-over finish on the front.

Jaal Work can be symmetrical or non-symmetrical — this depends entirely on the artisan's design. What defines Jaal Work is not the pattern style, but the complete coverage of the body panel.

What is the Difference Between Jaal Work and Jali Work?

• Jaal Work (All-Over Body Coverage): The artisan embroiders the entire surface of a specific body panel with continuous thread embroidery — completely covering it with intricate hand-crafted patterns. The fabric beneath remains solid; the embroidery creates a rich, all-over finish on top.
• Jali Work (Lattice / Open-Net Technique): A highly specialized Chikankari technique where individual fabric threads are carefully pulled apart — without cutting — to create tiny open, net-like geometric apertures in the cloth itself. It creates a delicate, sheer, lattice effect within the fabric.

In simple words — Jali creates beautiful openings inside the fabric. Jaal covers the fabric surface completely with embroidery. Both are Chikankari — but RUMI's Jaal Work is bolder, richer, and more statement-making.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

• Wash: Gentle hand wash in cold water with mild detergent — or mild dry clean only
• Drying: Dry flat in shade — never in direct sunlight, to preserve color richness
• Wringing: Do not wring or tumble dry — gently press out excess water
• Ironing: Press on the back side with cool-to-warm iron settings so the handwork remains intact
• Storage: Store folded in a muslin cloth or cotton bag to protect the embroidery
